Woke up to weather that was 20 degrees cooler than yesterday! I'll digress here and also mention that it's my 26th wedding anniversary today. While my husband was working, I definitely wanted to get out and take advantage of the beautiful weather. I'm a little scared now to venture too far from home after the last outing where I was 60 miles from home and ended up with a broken transmission. My car is actually still at the transmission shop, so I'm sharing my husband's Equinox. Today I only drove 36 miles away...and after taking pictures of the Burrowing Owls...I hopped in the car to a tire pressure warning light! Are you kidding me? I filled the tire twice before getting on the turnpike and prayed I would make it back home. Took a detour to my husband's shop and we discovered there was a side wall leak. Long story short, I did make it home.
Back to the owls. Brian Piccolo Park is currently a Covid testing site, so the west side of the park was closed off. I was still able to walk around to several burrows to photograph the owls. There were a pair of owls at each one, but I didn't see any babies. Warning, if you are easily grossed out, you may want to look away from the 4 images below. This series is the very first thing I saw and photographed when I got there this morning. I believe this frog would be considered a mid-morning snack? The male kept a lookout as the female downed the entire frog.
The next closest burrow had a skittish female. The male didn't mind me there, but she flew off a couple of times. I was glad that she moved around a bit, as it created fantastic images. She also flew over and landed on a parking stone.
Below are a few more favorites. I just love these little birds. They are always a treat to photograph. Link below to visit the photo gallery. I hope that you enjoy the photos.
