I really don't want to jinx myself, but I think that a new Red-Bellied Woodpecker family has moved into our tree out back. If you remember my post back in April, I was excited about a woodpecker making a nest in the tree. The reason that I never followed up with that post is that I (or the dogs) frightened them away. After the male woodpecker created such a magnificent nest, nobody ever moved in.
Fast forward to today and I see that a new couple has moved in. I went outside with my dog after work today and as you can see in the 3rd image below, the female inside the nest was very concerened about that 4 legged critter down below. She was watching Lily quite intently and I think she saw me too, even though I was crouching down and hiding. The only way that I'm able to shoot these is from inside my patio through a hole in the screen. I only took a few pictures today (didn't want to press my luck), but I'm hoping to share some more updates with you soon. It's definitely looking much more promising this time. Enjoy!
