Even though Kaley was under the weather today, she ran in and completed the Serena Williams 5K on South Beach. Race time was at 8 am and we didn't think that we were going to make it on time. They had shut down I-95 early this morning for what we found out was a wrong way fatal accident. We had to drive through Downtown Miami, which is completely under construction. The detour roads were terrible and we saw sections of Miami live and in person that I prefer to only see on tv. We drove right through what looked to be the start of a gang fight. There were people everywhere spilling out onto the street. It was all we could do to drive through and around what was going on. I almost hit a guy who was walking backwards and waving his arms.
After all that excitement, we finally made it to Lummus Park with only minutes to spare. Although she didn't place in her age group, she still came in at 32:30, which beats all of her prior races. Not too shabby for a sick kid. We are quite proud of her for giving it her all. Aside from Serena Williams, we also saw Al Roker from the Today Show and we saw Ray Allen from your MIAMI HEAT!
